Chapel

churchThe Village Chapel is a nondenominational ministry operated for and by residents of Sunland Village East.  It was started in 1990 by a group of SVE residents under the leadership of Paster Wyn Olson, a resident since 1988.  In October 2011, Wyn Olson resigned as pastor of the Village Chapel and on January 8, 2012, Richard Koerselman was called to serve as the pastor of the Village Chapel, beginning on May 1, 2012.

Our objective is to glorify the Lord, teach Biblical truth and provide a place of worship with our neighbors.  We meet for worship and fellowship in the SVE Auditorium each Sunday at 9 AM and for Bible Study in the Oakwood Room at the Palo Verde Building on Tuesdays at 7 PM from November through March.

Our choir meets for practice each Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Mesa Verde Room and performs each Sunday under the direction of Karen Bader.   The sermons are Bible centered and focused on relevant issues.  Our order of service is informal, but reverent, and our music is traditional.  A freewill offering is received each Sunday to cover our operating expenses and our donation to charities.  We contribute $10,000 to the SVEHOA each year for the use of their facilities.  Monthly  donations to Chapel charities are made during the year.

Neighborhood Watch

The Neighborhood Watch program is nation wide and locally is directed by the Mesa Police Department.

Neighborhood Watch has proven to be a great crime deterrent and, in SVE, has in addition added considerably to the quality of life by way of building an esprit de corps among our residents.  If you are new to SVE, we highly recommend that you get in touch with your Block Captain.

Block Watch groups are required to have two social functions of some kind each year.   This helps to expand our friendship base, improves our security, and enhances the pleasure of life in SVE - An Active Community at its Best.

We encourage newcomers and long term residents alike to step forward and volunteer to serve as Block Captains and/or Assistants.  An annual turn-over of leadership benefits us all.  The tasks are light and the benefits many.

Pickleball

pickle1 pickle2 pickle3

pickle4 logo pickle5

Pickleball was created with one thing in mind:   FUN!  It is a game designed to be challenging, but accessible for all ages and abilities.    It is easy to learn and play.

The game has a funny name, but don’t let that mislead you.  It is a game similar to tennis, ping pong and badminton.   It is played on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles.  The ball used is similar to a whiffle ball.

Did you know Pickeball is the fastest growing sport in the United States?  It has gained in popularity with Seniors who want to keep young ,both physically and mentally.

Pickleball is HERE in SVE.  With our newly constructed courts we are now able to offer beginner lessons, practice sessions, social  and round-robin play.

Yearly membership is only $25.00 !

Meetings, combined with a social get- together are held on the second Sunday of every month.

Pickleball may be the “best kept secret” in SVE… Let’s change that!!  Come and join us at the Pickleball Courts!  For further information contact :

Tap Dancers - "The SVE Sunsationals"

dance

2 minute slide show of
some of our activities.

The "Sunsationals" Tap Club began in 1990 for seniors that wanted to tap dance.  Now dancers, ages fifties through their eighties dance their way to fun and fitness here at Sunland Village East.  Dance revues are presented every other year with the next revue scheduled for March 2017.

Tap dancing is wonderful exercise for the mind and the body.  Dancers have to concentrate on each step as well as remember the sequence of the steps.  Its also a great stress reducer and good for the balance.  Along with keeping the body and mind sharp, members enjoy the friendships they have made through belonging to the group.  New members, men and women, are always welcome.

Classes for beginners and experienced dancers begin in November each year on Tuesday at 9 AM with practice on Friday mornings at 9 AM in the Sunland Village East Auditorium.

Call Alicia Hall  (480-354-7151)  or Linda Peterson 480-694-7168  for more information.

SVE TENNIS CLUB

tennisSVE has an outstanding Tennis Club, whose mission is to provide members with fun, fitness and friendship through tennis.  The Club has an excellent program, providing coaching and lessons at all levels, opportunities for league and non-league play, social events and more.  Tennis Club activities include hosting tournaments, league play, practice sessions, scheduled lessons and fun play.  In addition, there are numerous social events and fund-raising projects.  Members find volunteering for the various events and activities a rewarding experience.

NEW to SVE?  If you are interested in fun, friendship and fitness, plus lots of social activities and delicious dining, come over and join us at the courts.  New members are assigned to a tennis level to match their skill.  You only compete with players at your own level and ability.  The Club offers free lessons for beginners, and has loaner tennis racquets if you need one.  More than half of our members never played tennis before joining the Club.  Lessons for beginners and experienced players begin in November.  Call John Gleason at 480-323-5396 to find your spot on the court.

Membership is only $50 per year; one of the best values around!  Come to the courts and see for yourself, or talk with one of the ambassadors or officers  listed below.  You’ll be glad you did!
