Sunland Village East provides a lifestyle where residents can try new things, connect with others and just have fun. We have over 70 clubs and groups; and if that isn’t enough, you can start your own! Below is a list of clubs currently available to SVE residents. ARTS & CRAFTS and HOBBIES
- Art Club/Classes- $10 Annual membership fee. We have Beginner to intermediate watercolor class which meets every Monday starting in November through April at 9:00am to 11:30am, Instructor Tammy Pursley. For additional information contact Tammie at 602-373-1707. Advanced watercolor class meets every Monday from November through April at 1:00pm to 3:30pm Instructor is Elaine Dube. Elaine also holds a free Critique Group which meets every third Friday of the month from 10:00am to 12:00pm. For additional information contact Elaine at ugotdubes@yahoo.com. The Art Club holds another free event called “Share Your Skills” where members show you what other fun skills are out there. We meet every Wednesday beginning the second week of November through the end of March from 9:30am to 11:30am monitored by Cris Barnes. - Ceramic Club– There is a monitor in the room on the following days and times: Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays 9:00am to 11:00am; Tuesdays and Wednesday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm October through March. Club members will be able to use their fobs to enter the ceramic room any time from 7:00am until 8:00pm. Dues are $10/year. - SVE Garden Club- The SVE Garden Club was started in Fall 2022 by several residents who wanted to learn more about Arizona gardening. The SVE Garden Club is a small club with no dues, officers or bylaws. Meetings are held the second Friday of the month from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Rosewood Room from October to May. They have guest speakers, home tours in SVE, field trips to Arboretums/Gardens in the Valley, and other activities. - Lapidary and Silversmith Club – Located in the North complex, our summer hours are Monday 8:30am to 11:30am and Thursday 1:00pm to 3:30pm. Fall/winter hours will be Monday – Friday 8:30am to 11:30am and 1:00pm to 3:30pm. Newcomers are always welcome. No experience needed. Learn to make your own jewelry. Looking for a perfect gift, check out items for sale in our windows. Due to the close quarters of the room, if you are unvaccinated, a mask is required. Free lessons & material on Mondays. - Sunland Stitchers Club– Meets Monday through Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm in the Stitchers Room in the Palo Verde Bldg. Business meetings are the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month October through March. We offer classes monthly from October through March. We are also open all summer. Newcomers are welcome. We encourage you to come check us out. We do more than just quilt. - SVE Woodshop Club– The Woodshop hours by Month. Jan, Feb, March: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm; April: Monday through Friday 8:00am to noon; May, June, July, August, September: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:00am to noon; October: Monday through Friday 8:00am to noon; November and December Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. The Woodshop also meets the first Tuesday of the Month, in the Rosewood Room 10:30am to 12:00 noon (October through April). There are no meetings held in the Summer. If for some reason monitors are not available during the summer months, the woodshop will be closed. Due to Covid, the protocol being utilized is the standard 6’ social distancing, hand sanitizing, mandatory sign-in and wearing of a mask for non-vaccinated residents. Mask for vaccinated residents are currently not required but encouraged. If you are ill, running a temperature or feel bad, please stay at home to take care of yourself and protect others. - MahJong, International Club- meets in mid-November through April every Monday from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the Small Card Room. In International Mahjong the only difference is that you don’t follow a card. Beginners are welcome and will be taught; experience is not required. - Pass the Trash- Meets every Saturday, except for the second Saturday of the month. Doors open at 5:30pm, 6:00pm start playing, goes until 8/8:30pm. Everyone brings a snack (if you lose you go to the senior buffet 😊) to eat between games. They meet year-round in the Mesa Verde Room. This is a one card game that brings laughter and fun to everyone who plays. No club dues- $.75 per game. EXERCISE & DANCE
- Line Dancing- Classes are Tuesdays 9:00am to 10:00am in the Sedona Room and on Thursdays 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Mesa Verde Room. The first hour (4-5) is for Advanced, 2nd hour (5-6) is for beginners. Cost is $5.00. For more information contact Susan Tuttle at 602-329-2213.
- North Pool Aerobic Exercises for Arthritis Club- Meets Monday through Friday. The north pool offers an 8:30am class of stretching and aerobic water exercises for arthritis year-round. A second class of these exercises is offered at 9:30am from November 1 to May 1. Hours can vary based on pool construction/maintenance. - South Pool Water Aerobics Club– There are a few different classes Monday through Friday. - Square Dancing– Meetings start in December. Dances are from January through the middle of March. Cost is $10/person per session. There are 3 different days/times that offer different levels of challenge (C stands for Challenge Level Square Dancing). Meets Sunday evening 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Sedona Room (C1 Dance), Tuesday Morning 9:30am to 11:30am in the Mesa Verde Room (C3B), and Wednesday evening 7:00pm to 9:00pm–location to be determined (C2 Dance). - SVE Stretch Club (formerly gentle stretch)- Meets every Saturday from 8:00am to 9:00am in the Sedona Room. The cost is $5 pp. Start your day with a gentle stretch and improve full body flexibility. - Sunsationals Tap Dance Club– Meets 9:00am to 11:30am in the Auditorium on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month through the summer. Starting in October they will meet 9:00am to 11:30am in the Auditorium every Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday is a tap class taught by an experienced professional (winter months only). - SVE Golf Course– We have a superbly conditioned 18 Hole Executive Length Course and driving range with 9 holes available as well. Enjoyable for all ages and abilities. Open daily until 5:30pm. OTHER ACTIVITIES
- Active Singles Club- Meets every Wednesday in the Mesa Verde Room. Doors open at 6:00pm and the meeting begins at 6:30pm, with games to follow. The evening ends at approximately 8:30pm. For more information contact Martha Gardner at 480-968-2579.
- Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group– Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month in the Saguaro Room at 1:00pm. The group is led by a representative from the Alzheimer’s Association. For more information contact Winnie Brennan at 602-290-9680.
- Bingo– We play every Sunday except Easter in the SVE Auditorium. Doors open at 3:00pm and Bingo starts at 5:00pm. No person under the age of 18 may purchase packets, play games, or claim prizes. Prize money will vary during the year based on attendance. We play in accordance with the Arizona State Revenue rules and regulations, which are available on the premises along with the prominent display of the SVE Bingo license. The SVE Bingo Committee thanks you for playing “Bingo” with us. We are always looking for volunteers in the kitchen concessions, cash registers, game sales, and room set up/clean up. - Book Club– Meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month (September-June) from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Rosewood Room. - SVE Computer Club– Our regular meetings are on Mondays at 9:00 AM in the Mesa Verde Room. Check out our new interactive website at SVECTC.com. Through this site you can join the club and receive meetings and informational notices throughout the year for Windows, Apple, Linux, Photography, and In the Know. We have both weekly in-person and Zoom meetings (September to May) and Zoom meetings bi-monthly (June to October) for General Membership and All SIGS (special interest groups) as well as small hands-on training sessions. Access to the website requires membership and signups and payments are made online. Membership is for 1 year from the date of signup and you can sign up at any time. Our in-person and zoom meetings include Question and Answer periods and presentations by National Computer groups, and local government officials, library, police, fire etc. In addition, the club offers Internet access in the area around the Computer and Technology Club Training Room at the North complex across from the library. - Fix-It Tuesdays – Held on many Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm. This is open to all Sunland Village East residents. Bring your laptop with power cord or the tower from your desktop to the Computer and Technology Training Room. The fee is $20. If you are unable to bring your computer to the Training Room on Tuesdays, you may call to set up an appointment for an in-home visit. Joe Zagar is available between 9am – 3pm, Monday through Friday at 602-885-9666. There is a nominal fee for an in-home visit.

- Photo SIG – Meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 1pm to 3pm in the Computer and Technology Training Room across from the library. We occasionally send out helpful photo tip information as well as some great links to photo collections for everyone to enjoy. - In the Know – Is run by SVE Resident Dawn Milburn and is a special interest group that meets monthly for presentations on a variety of topics of interest. From learning about “Cognitive Decline As We Age” to “How To Properly Care For a Golf Cart”, speakers are knowledgeable professionals who bring a wealth of knowledge in their respective field. We meet on the 3rd Monday of the month (September to May) in the Mesa Verde room at 10am. All residents are welcome.

- Bible Friendship Circle Club– Starts in November and ends in April. We meet on both the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9:00am to 11:00am in The Card Room (located in the courtyard next to the HOA office). We study the bible using a study guide to help us. Open discussion is encouraged to understand the word of God better. Prayer is included as we pray for each other’s needs. We make time for new relationships with extra activities. We provide a treat to share so bring something to drink and please wear your name tag, if you have one. - SVE Genealogy Club– Curious about your ancestry? Want to know what secrets or exciting adventures lie in your family history? Come join our group of others who are interested in finding out. We welcome anyone whether you are new to family history research or experienced. We learn from and help each other. - Healthy Living Club– no fees for attending. We meet from September through May on Mondays in the Rosewood Room from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. We discuss how to thrive in life verses just surviving. - SVE Veterans Club– The Club promotes patriotism, honors veterans and family members, creates educational opportunities, and supports those in need anytime. ANYONE CAN JOIN! Our club meetings run October-April on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (see website for more info) in the auditorium and we host a few special events throughout the year. The monthly “Vets Talk” meetings are open to Veterans only and run year-round on the 2nd Friday of each month in the Saguaro Room. The club has many active committees that run ongoing programs and services for the Community. - Village Chapel– Chapel services are held in the Auditorium, services start at 9:00am. There will be congregational singing. A Fellowship, with coffee and donuts, begins immediately after the worship service. The Village Chapel is a non-denominational ministry that exists to serve SVE residents and non-residents in the surrounding community. Since 1990, the chapel has been providing weekly worship services, seasonal Bible Studies and daily prayer and support for the ill and those grieving the loss of loved ones. - Village Singers Club– Meets every Tuesday at 1:00pm for rehearsals from January through March in the Mesa Verde room. Our director is Ilona Porter who has extensive experience directing singing groups. She works well with individuals who have a lot of experience with singing as well as those who have never been trained and have never done singing with groups. The climax of our season is a concert we do towards the end of March. The group also makes appearances for other clubs to lead a special gathering in singing the national anthem or similar requests. - Vintage Strummers- Vintage Strummers is a performance ukulele group. We currently have 12 members. We have 7 ukuleles, 3 guitars, one bass player and keyboardist. We have a great time playing and singing together! We meet on Mondays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in the Sedona Room, October through April. We perform at least one concert a year and have played in back yards, “On the Green’ concerts and for other clubs in our community. - Women’s Health Rhythm Drum Club- The club hosts Women’s Frame Drum Class. It’s FREE & FUN! NO registration is needed. Frame drums are provided. NO musical background or experience required. The first 30 minutes of each class are tailored for beginners, and the last 45 minutes are for all to play and learn together. This is great for left/right brains, connection, creativity, meditation, and relieving stress. Even if you can’t make it to all the classes, just a few will get you on your way, and you WILL learn enough to have FUN, AND RELIEVE STRESS. Techniques of Marla Leigh will be used. You can check out YouTube to watch her videos and become familiar with the frame drum and how it can help you relax and meditate, no matter where you are.

- Bocce Club– Courts are open 9:00am to 9:00pm. Practice balls are in the closet just north of the courts and game rules are posted at the court. Please return the equipment to the closet and turn off the lights when leaving. League play is from January through the middle of March. - Pickleball Club- Pickleball courts are open to all residents and guests as long as guests are accompanied by a resident. All residents will need a fob to enter the new courts. Security unlocks the Sport Courts at 6:00am. If you don’t have a paddle, we have paddles and balls that you can use. $40/year for membership. Classes are available starting in December. - Ping Pong Club– Come check out Ping-Pong Tuesdays from 12:30pm to 3:00pm and Fridays from 9:30am to 12:00pm in the Sedona Room. If you are interested in being a host, please contact Debbie at 303-929-1457. Bring your own paddle or the Association has a limited number of paddles residents can use.
- SVE Shuffleboard Club– Shuffleboard is a fun and active game; new players are always welcome. Organized play with available training is Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 9:30am (October through May). All equipment is provided. Courts are available to play individually Monday through Sunday 9:00am to 9:00pm. Guests must have their SVE resident in attendance with them when utilizing our courts. Rules are posted at the courts. Please only use the wax that is in the “shake” containers when you come to play. When finished, clean the courts thoroughly by sweeping all wax up and putting it in the garbage cans. Any wax left on the courts is a safety hazard. - Softball Club– SVE Softball Club plays in many leagues and hosts leagues play here at our softball field. Multiple teams and participation are based on age and skill levels. Spectators are always welcome! Fall Season will start the first week in November and Winter Season starts first week in January. - Trailblazers Hiking Club– Meet every Tuesday beginning in November through March. Times will vary from 7:00am to 8:00am when we start as it all depends on the weather. Hikers meet on Farnsworth in the parking lot by the outgoing mailboxes. Riders are to compensate drivers. All hikers carpooling with the hiking group are required to sign a waiver and carry at least 1.5 liters of water. Food and sturdy footwear are recommended. - SVE Water Volleyball (north pool)– Looking for fun in the pool? Come to Water Volleyball. Winter hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Starting the middle of June, summer play hours will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Please contact us (jawerring@gmail.com) on game days so we can determine whether there are enough players to meet without traveling to the pool. Great fun and exercise.
